29 February 2016. Eighteen members of the San Beda Legal Aid Bureau (SLAB), headed by its Executive Director, Atty. Peter-Joey B. Usita spoke to the Chargé d`Affaires of the Embassy of the Philippines, Victorio Mario M. Dimagiba, Jr. on February 22, 2016. Embassy officials briefed San Beda law students on the current legal cases facing Filipinos in Singapore and the legal proceedings associated with these cases. Embassy officials also briefed them on the working conditions of Filipino migrant workers in Singapore. The office was officially established in 2004, with sixteen (16) fourth-year students serving as articling students under the supervision of current Vice-Dean Marciano Delson. From 2007 to 2010, Paul Sagayo chaired the Presidium.
The San Beda Legal Aid Bureau is a clinical legal education program established by the Supreme Court of the Philippines pursuant to its February 17, 2004 Resolution on Bar Association No. 963 From 2010 to present, the Presidium is under the supervision of Peter-Joey Usita, who is the Director of the Office. Since then, the number of trainees has continued to grow. And for the 2013-2014 academic year, fifty-seven (57) fourth-year students are articling students. Every day, articling students offer free legal advice to walk-in clients. In addition, the office supports and represents indigent clients in court. In 2013, UNHCR also entered into an operational partnership with the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees through the San Beda Institutional Community Participation Centre. Currently, the office is based in San Beda College, Mendiola, Manila. Satellite offices are also maintained in the parishes of Quiapo and St. Jude. The office will soon be located at Sinag sa Sais Center, Pandacan, Manila.
